Use case
Vermont Residential Contractors (OPR)
Every active Vermont residential contractor licence, business and individual, from the Office of Professional Regulation, with mailing address and expiry.
Say you sell windows, lumber or construction loans in Vermont and want to mail every licensed residential contractor before the spring building season, or you need to check that the builders on a homeowner’s shortlist hold a current state licence. Vermont’s Office of Professional Regulation licenses residential contractors (the oldest active licence on its roster was first issued on November 29, 2022), and it publishes every one, firms and individuals, with a mailing address.
The manual way, and what it costs
For this one list, the free way is genuinely fine. Open Profession Roster Download, pick Residential Contractors, pick the Business type, tick Active, download the spreadsheet; then do it again for the Individual type. That is two spreadsheets and a few minutes. What you get is OPR’s raw export: firms and individuals in two files with different columns, and every out-of-state contractor mixed in. Of the 1,652 active licences on November 4, 2026, 1,459 had a Vermont mailing address; the rest were mostly in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York, and 54 carried no address at all. Joining and filtering that once is ten minutes in a spreadsheet. Doing it every month, or adding engineers and architects, is where it stops being worth your time.
The faster way
Vermont Professional License Lookup & Leads Scraper (OPR) does the same search once and hands back every row at once.

categories names the two residential contractor licence types, firm and individual, and
statuses keeps only live licences: the roster also holds every expired one (365 of the 2,019
contractor licences on November 3). A maxResults of 2,000 is comfortably above the 1,652 active
licences, so the run returns all of them. To keep only your territory, add a cities list
(Burlington, South Burlington, Colchester, Williston); those four held 144 active licences.

| Field | Example value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
name | Twin Pines Building & Remodeling LLC | Licence holder: a person’s full name, or the business name for a business licence |
listing_id | 174.0000001 | Licence number exactly as OPR prints it (e.g. 174.0000001) |
category | Residential Contractor - Business | Licence type in OPR’s words, e.g. Residential Contractor - Business, Registered Nurse, Professional Engineer |
street | 31 West St | Mailing street address (both address lines) |
city | Essex Junction | Mailing city |
region | VT | Mailing state (two letters) |
For a mailing, street, city, region and postal_code close the loop: 1,598 of the 1,652
active licences carry a street address, 112 of them a PO box. category tells a firm
(Residential Contractor - Business, 975 licences) from an individual contractor (677). For the
shortlist check, match on listing_id and read extras.status and extras.expires: every active
residential contractor licence on the roster expires on March 31, 2027.
What you’d do with it
Import the rows into your CRM or mail-merge sheet, keep region = VT if you only ship in state,
and print. Rerun the same input next month and compare licence numbers to see who is new; 254 of the
active licences were first issued in 2026.
Worth knowing
The roster carries a mailing address but no phone or email. Rows come from a stored copy of OPR’s rosters, not a live read; the run log gives its date. The address is the one the contractor gave OPR, sometimes a home or a PO box. A contractor missing from the list may hold the licence under a different business name, so check OPR’s own Licensee Lookup for that one name.
Run it yourself: How to run Vermont Professional License Lookup & Leads Scraper (OPR) walks the whole thing step by step.
The same actor returns OPR’s other licence types: nurses, engineers, pharmacists, real estate brokers. For an electrical contractor list in Missouri instead, see Missouri Electrical Contractors (DPR). To check contractor licences in several states at once, the US contractor license lookup runs this actor for Vermont alongside the other states’ boards.
