Use case
Export Ada County, Idaho Registered General Contractors
Every active DOPL General Contractor Registration in Ada County, Idaho, with business, DBA, mailing address, issue and expiry dates.
Say you run a building-supply yard in Meridian and you want a postcard in the hands of every registered general contractor in Ada County before the spring season starts. The Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL) holds that list as General Contractor Registrations, and on 2026-10-14 there were 4,676 active ones with an Ada County mailing address. You want them, with street addresses, in a file your mail house will accept.
The manual way, and what it costs
DOPL’s licence search at edopl.idaho.gov shows one record at a time, which is no use for building a list. Its “Search for a Bulk List of Licenses” page is a different story, and it is free. Pick the Contractors board, run the search (it reads “Page 1 of 2,119”), press Export, and you get an .ods spreadsheet of every General Contractor Registration in Idaho: 52,966 rows in every status. Open it in LibreOffice or Excel, filter Status to Active and County to ADA, and you have your list. If you need it once, for one mailing, do exactly that and keep your money.
Where it stops being reasonable is the second time. A spring mailing becomes a monthly one, and the useful question turns into “who registered since last month”, which means downloading 52,966 rows again and diffing them against your last file by hand. Only 25,863 of those rows were active, so every download starts with filtering out the Lapsed, Expired and Canceled firms again. None of it can be put on a schedule or fed straight into a CRM.
The faster way
Idaho Contractor License Lookup & List Scraper (DOPL) does the same search once and hands back every row at once.
{
"county": "Ada",
"status": "Active",
"maxResults": 5000
}
county is the territory, matched on the county of the mailing address. status stays at its
default of Active, so firms that stopped renewing stay off your postage bill. No licence type is set, so the export is General Contractor Registrations, which is what you
want for a builder mailing. maxResults is your spend cap for the whole run: 5,000 sits above Ada’s
4,676, so the run returns all of them and stops there. If your yard only delivers inside city limits,
add "city": "Boise" and the same run returned 2,209 rows on 2026-10-14.

business_name | SNAKE RIVER SPLICING LLC | Registered business (a sole proprietor’s own name when there is none) |
dba_name | SNAKE RIVER SPLICING LLC | Doing-business-as name, when filed |

issue_date | 2020-05-21 | Original issue date (YYYY-MM-DD) |
For a postcard run, address, city and zip_code are the envelope, and the ZIP comes as ZIP+4
when DOPL has it (83706-2342 above). Put dba_name on the name line when it is filled, since it
is the name the firm trades under; statewide, 19,611 of 25,863 active registrations carry one. Keep
license_number as the key in your sheet. Names change and DBAs get added, but RCE-54671 stays
RCE-54671, so next month’s run lines up against this one.
What you’d do with it
Export the dataset as CSV and hand it to your mail house, or merge it in Word against your postcard
template: 4,676 rows at $0.004 each comes to $18.70 for the whole county. Then put the same input on
a monthly schedule and keep only the rows whose issue_date is later than your last run. Those are
the firms that registered since your last mailing, and there are a lot of them: 3,596 active
registrations statewide were first issued in 2026 alone.
Worth knowing
This is an address list, not a phone list. DOPL had a phone for 10.9% of active registrations and an email for 10.6% on 2026-10-14, so most rows in your Ada export will have neither, and the sample row above is the lucky case. The county is the county of the mailing address, not of the jobs: a Canyon County firm that builds all over Meridian will not appear, and 1,505 active registrations statewide have no county at all, so a county filter cannot catch them. DOPL’s export has no bond, insurance or classification fields, so you cannot tell a remodeler from a commercial builder from this data. Each run downloads the whole statewide file before filtering, which took about 35 seconds when we timed it from our workstation.
Run it yourself: How to run Idaho Contractor License Lookup & List Scraper (DOPL) walks the whole thing step by step.
If your territory is the whole state rather than one county, Download Every Active Idaho Contractor Registration Statewide takes all of it in one run and drops the 5,981 firms that mail from out of state.
If your mailing crosses into Washington, Washington Contractor License Lookup & Verify (L&I) covers that state’s own registry; 2,008 of Idaho’s active registrations already have a Washington mailing address.
