Use case
Export Newark, New Jersey Home Improvement Contractors
Every active DCA-registered home improvement contractor with a Newark address, with street address, ZIP, owner and registration dates.
Say you run the trade desk at a building-supply yard in Newark’s Ironbound, and you want to put a printed price sheet and a trade-account offer in front of every registered remodeler, roofer and siding firm based in the city before spring. In New Jersey anyone doing home improvement work for homeowners has to register with the Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA), so the registry is the list: on 2026-10-12 DCA had 813 active home improvement registrations with a Newark address, out of 47,251 statewide.
The manual way, and what it costs
DCA’s verification site is free and the search itself is simple. Pick Home Improvement Contractors as the profession, type Newark into City and you get the list, 40 to a page, which is 21 pages. Copying the names, licence numbers and statuses off those pages is a slow afternoon, and if a list of names is all you need, that afternoon is a fair price.
The mailing address is the problem. The results list shows name, licence number, status and city only. The street address, ZIP and owner’s name are on each licence’s detail page, so a mailable list means 813 more clicks. After 20 detail pages from one search DCA stops serving them and shows a “too many requests” CAPTCHA page, and the detail links stop working once you leave the results page they came from. So in practice you search, open 20 details, search again, and repeat about 40 times.
The faster way
New Jersey Contractor License Lookup & List Scraper (DCA) runs the same city search, pages through it and opens every detail page for you, re-searching whenever DCA’s 20-view limit comes up.
{
"trade": "home_improvement",
"city": "Newark",
"maxResults": 1000
}
trade picks the home improvement registrations (licence prefix 13VH), and city keeps the licensees whose own address city is Newark. maxResults at 1000 sits above the 813 that match, so nothing is cut off; the run’s maximum charge has to cover the rows too, and at $0.004 each that is $3.25. Status defaults to Active. On Apify on 2026-10-12 the run took 323 seconds: 249 to list the 813 licences from DCA’s search, which re-runs the query for every page, and 69 to open all 813 detail pages.
What comes back
A real row from that run:

| Field | Example value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
business_name | G & GENERAL MASTER CONTRACTORS LLC | Registered business name |
person_name | Pedro V Gonzalez | Owner named on the registration |
address / zip_code | 52 Plymouth Street, Apt #3 / 07106 | Street address from the detail page |
issue_date | 2018-03-28 | When the registration was issued |
address_state | NJ | State of the address (out-of-state firms register too) |
address is what turns this into a mailing list, and it was filled on all 813 rows, at 802 distinct addresses with only 2 PO boxes. person_name was filled on 809, so most pieces can go to a named owner. 203 rows carry a DBA name, which is often the name on the truck, so print that when it is there.
What you’d do with it
Tick newJerseyAddressesOnly first. 20 of the 813 are in Newark, Delaware (ZIPs 197xx), because DCA registers out-of-state firms and the city filter matches the name. That leaves 793 in New Jersey. The Ironbound’s 07105 alone holds 276 of them, then 07107 with 136 and 07104 with 115, so a walk-in flyer run near the yard covers a third of the list. Then sort by issue_date: 163 of the 793 were registered since January 2025, the newest firms on the list and the ones a welcome offer suits. Re-run each quarter and compare licence numbers to catch the new registrations.
Worth knowing
There is no phone and no email: DCA publishes neither, so this is a list for mail, a sales visit or a trade-counter promotion, not for a call centre. The city is the licensee’s own address, not where they work, so a Kearny firm that does half its jobs in Newark is not on it. Every active home improvement registration expires on 2027-03-31, DCA’s shared renewal date, so the expiry column does not separate anyone; issue_date does. 6 of the ZIPs come back as nine digits with no hyphen (ZIP+4), so trim to five before the mail house sees them.
Run it yourself: How to run New Jersey Contractor License Lookup & List Scraper (DCA) walks the whole thing step by step, including a statewide export.
To check contractors you already buy from or hire rather than find new ones, Verify New Jersey Contractor Licenses (DCA) runs their licence numbers and names. If the yard also sells into Maryland, Maryland Contractor License Lookup & List Scraper (MHIC) builds the same street-address list for Maryland’s home improvement licensees.
