Use case
List Electrical Contractors in Hinds County, Mississippi
Active MSBOC commercial Electrical Work licences in Hinds County (Jackson), with phone and street address.
Suppose you are the estimator at a general contractor in Jackson, bidding a school renovation that closes in two weeks, and the owner’s bid documents require every subcontractor to hold an active Mississippi State Board of Contractors licence in the class they perform. You need electrical subs to invite: firms with an active Electrical Work licence, a phone number to call, and an expiry date that runs past the end of the job. On 2026-10-07, MSBOC counted 29 such licences with a Hinds County address.
The manual way, and what it costs
MSBOC’s QuickSearch is free and it will answer this. Set Status to active, Class to Electrical Work and Miss. County to Hinds, raise Rows Per Page, and all 29 firms fit on one screen with name, licence number, address and phone. If a phone list is all you need, stop there and copy it out; for 29 rows that is a fair trade.
The list is where the free route stops, though. Expiry dates, the other classes a firm holds and the names of its officers sit only on each licence’s detail page, so checking that 29 licences outlast your job means 29 more page loads and a spreadsheet you fill in by hand. Widen the bid to Madison and Rankin counties and it becomes 85 detail pages, and you will want to do it again for the next bid.
The faster way
Mississippi Contractor License Lookup & Leads Scraper (MSBOC) does the same search once and hands back every row at once.
{
"county": "Hinds",
"classification": "E"
}
“E” is MSBOC’s own code for Electrical Work, which is a commercial class, so the search reaches only commercial licences, which is what a school job needs. The county is sent to MSBOC as its own filter, and details stay on by default, so each of the 29 rows arrives with its classifications, expiry date and officers already filled in. To widen the bid list, use counties with Hinds, Madison and Rankin: on 2026-10-07 that ran three searches (29, 23 and 33 licences) for 85 rows in 5.3 seconds of our local run, every row with details_status “ok”.

For the bid, expiration_date closes the loop: sort on it and the 5 Hinds licences that expire before the end of 2026 go to the bottom of the call list or get a question about renewal. phone is on all 29, in three different formats (17 with dashes, 8 with brackets, 4 as bare digits), so tidy it before it goes into a dialer. classifications tells you who else a firm is: 15 of the 29 hold more than Electrical Work, 13 of them also Building Construction, so read that column before you assume a firm on the list is an electrical specialist. officers (on 24 rows) and qualifying_names give you a name to ask for, and source_url opens the licence’s own MSBOC page if the owner asks you to show your check.
What you’d do with it
Export the dataset as CSV, sort by expiration_date, and drop it into your bid-invitation sheet with license_number and license_type together as the key. Call the 14 firms whose only licensed class is Electrical Work first. Attach each sub’s source_url to the bid file as the record of when you checked the licence. When the next bid comes up, run it again; at $0.004 a row, Hinds alone costs about $0.12 and the three-county list $0.34.
Worth knowing
There is no email: MSBOC does not publish one on any page, so this is a phone and post list. Addresses are what the board holds, and 18 of the 29 Hinds addresses are PO boxes, so they will not help you plan site visits. The county comes from MSBOC’s own ZIP table and only exists for Mississippi addresses, which matters more than it sounds: of the 1,284 active Electrical Work licences statewide on 2026-10-07, only 454 have a Mississippi address, and the other 830 (37 of them in Memphis alone) never appear in a county search. To see them, run the same classification with no county. The minority column is MSBOC’s flag (Yes on 9 of the 29), not a certification for a bid’s participation goal. And a licence record is not a pre-qualification: it says nothing about bonding capacity or past work.
