Use case
Columbia, SC Building Contractor List with Phone Numbers
Every Active SC LLR Building (BD) contractor in Columbia, South Carolina, with phone, street address, licence limit and owner.
Say you sell commercial doors and hardware out of Columbia, South Carolina, and next month you want to phone every general contractor in town that can bid a commercial building job. In South Carolina that set of firms is defined by one licence classification: Building (BD), issued by the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR). You need names, phone numbers and, ideally, the owner’s name before you start dialling, and you want the bigger firms first.
The manual way, and what it costs
LLR’s contractor lookup is free and it is the right tool for checking one firm. For a list, it is slow. Every search sits behind a reCAPTCHA, and the result list gives only the name, city and status. The phone, street address, classifications and officers are on each licence’s own detail page. Columbia has 228 Active BD licences, so the list means 228 detail pages, copied by hand into a sheet. And the city search also returns lapsed and closed licences (497 for Columbia BD across every status), which you then have to weed out. If you need ten firms, do it by hand. For two hundred, it is a long day.
The faster way
South Carolina Contractor Directory & Leads Scraper (LLR) does the same search once and hands back every row at once.

"city": "Columbia",

city: "Columbia" is an exact match on the licence’s address city, so it is Columbia proper. Add Lexington, Irmo, West Columbia and Cayce in cities and the same search was 408 contractors. classification: "BD" is an exact code match on Building. Active licences with a South Carolina address are the default, and maxResults: 500 is just headroom. On the 2026-10-24 roster this returned 228 contractors.

For a calling list, phone closes the loop, and 226 of the 228 rows had one. officers gives you a name to ask for: on 151 rows one of the officers is listed as President / Owner. classifications sorts the list by size: the digit after “BD” is the licence-limit group, and 71 of the 228 are BD5, the top group, while 52 rows are Construction Manager licences that carry the classification with no group at all.
What you’d do with it
Export the dataset to CSV, sort on classifications so the BD5 and BD4 firms come first, and load it into the dialler or CRM you already use. Add a column for “estimator” and one for “next follow-up”. The run cost $0.456 (228 rows at $0.002), so re-running it each month and diffing license_number against your sheet is a cheap way to catch new BD licences in Columbia.
Worth knowing
There is no email on any row: LLR does not publish one, so this is a phone list. The roster is a monthly snapshot, up to about a month old, and the run log states its date. 107 of the 228 licences expire on 10/31/2026, so the next monthly roster will show which of them renewed. One firm can appear twice, once with a General Contractor licence and once with a Construction Manager licence: the 228 rows are 172 distinct business names. Residential builders are licensed by a different LLR board and are not here.
Run it yourself: How to run South Carolina Contractor Directory & Leads Scraper (LLR) walks the whole thing step by step.
Working across the state line too, North Carolina Contractor License Lookup & Verify (NCLBGC) checks North Carolina general contractor licences. For the same commercial list with phone in Alabama, use Alabama Commercial Contractor Directory & Leads (LBGC).
